The
opening prayers were said by Mene Saro, after which an opening remark was made
by Tonye Willie Pepple (SYNW Rivers State Coordinator), who welcomed new
members of the Society and intimated them of the Society’s aims and objectives,
he further informed them of details required for membership including payment
of annual fees of N3000 each. After the brief introduction, the Coordinator
requested for contributions.
Contributions
which came were positive as members expressed joy and welcomed SYNW in Rivers
State, calling it a good development for literature and its lovers in Rivers
State. There was no agreement as to the membership details and requirements as
each member promised to comply within the best possible time.
As
part of the Meeting Agenda, Tonye Willie-Pepple requested for an adhoc
executives in acting capacity prior to when there would be an influx of people
when proper elections can take place to chose people to serve on the executive,
therefore, the interim appointments were made according to indicated interest
by members so as to carry out the business of the house without delays as the
days go by.
The
following people were however constituted into the following positions
Finance
and Accounts – Saro Mene
Seceratary
– Lillian Nnenne
Public
Relations Officer – Ekpobari Martins
Rivers
Coordinator – Tonye Willie Pepple
Date
of meetings were set for general meetings (first Sundays of every Month – after
the Church service) and Literary readings (Last Sundays of every month – also
after the church service).
Tonye
Willie-Pepple proposed to host the next literary Reading by which time all of
the contacts expected would have been communicated. The book of the month for
the reading was chosen to be Things Fall Apart, in honor of a Literary Giant
who passed on earlier in the year. Subsequent readings which will be taken to
primary and secondary schools will also feature other writers among which must
be members of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers as well.
The
meeting came to a close at exactly 5:50PM and the closing prayers were said by
Ekpobari Martins.
