Call for Submissions for Voices of Freedom: Anthology of Poems to Mark Nigeria's Independence



The Society of Young Nigerian Writers is calling for submissions from young Nigerian poets residing in Nigeria and outside for Rhythms of Truth: An Anthology of Poems to Mark Nigeria @ 53 Independent which will also be dedicated to Prof. Kofi Awoonor who recently lost his life during a terrorists attack in Kenya.

SYNW Members and intending members are to compose poems of 40 lines to 60 lines on any topical issues ranging from politics, religion, corruption, terrorism, bad economy, bad governance, stealing, kidnapping, raping etc.

The scope of this project is to sample the opinions of Young Nigerian Poets residing within and outside Nigeria on the level of progress and failures recorded by our leaders after fifty three years of independent.


ELIGIBILITY:
  • Language Medium – English, Hausa and Igbo
  • Poetry Type – Any
  • Participants should be between the ages of 10 and 35
  • Poems should be between the minimum of 10 lines and maximum of 50 lines
  • Entrants should include the followings alongside their works: state, age, location, short profile, where you heard about the call for entries, telephone number and a sentence of not more than 50 words describing the poem
  • Permission to publish your work among the shortlisted entries
  • Any signs of plagiarism may disqualify the contestant
  • Deadline for Submission: November 3rd, 2013.
  • Only shortlisted entries will be published.

  • Award of Certificate of Participation to all entrants
  • Award of Certificate of Excellence to all shortlisted entrants
  • All shortlisted poems will be published (printed and E-book format)
  • Automatic Membership into the Society of Young Nigerian Writers
